Ben Hallman is the founder and executive director of The Examination.
He was previously senior editor at the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), where he edited stories that anchored major prize-winning investigations, working with news partners around the globe. He was also deputy editor of The Trace, a nonprofit covering America’s gun violence crisis and an investigations editor at HuffPost.
As a reporter, he investigated the lawsuit-funding industry, abusive foreclosure practices, for-profit hospice companies and much more. He has won dozens of awards for his work.
Ben grew up in Alabama. He once had many hobbies but now parents three children.
