Steve Myers

Interim Managing Editor

Steve Myers is interim managing editor of The Examination.

By the time he joined the team, he had managed 20-some collaborative investigations as an editor for ProPublica’s Local Reporting Network, USA TODAY and The Lens, a nonprofit newsroom in New Orleans. Among his award-winning projects areCommitted to Jail,” about Mississippi counties’ practice of jailing mentally ill people who hadn’t committed a crime; "Losing Ground," an interactive examination of coastal land loss in Louisiana; and an investigation into Orleans Parish prosecutors’ use of fake subpoenas.

Myers has served as managing editor of Poynter Online, taught journalism as a professional-in-residence at Texas Christian University, coached reporters for the Fund for Investigative Journalism, and reported at newspapers in Alabama, North Carolina and West Virginia on subjects ranging from coal mining to disaster response. As a 2019 Nieman fellow, he studied how nonprofit news sites could adopt community organizing techniques to build stronger ties with the community. He lives in New Orleans and likes motorcycles and bees, but not together.
