Flavored cigarettes in Latin America: ‘It’s like smoking gum'

Philip Morris International and British American Tobacco are pumping kid-friendly flavors like blueberry and watermelon into conventional cigarettes and have been fighting efforts to ban the products in Latin America. “Click” cigarettes have crushable capsules in the filter that infuse the smoke with flavors like lemon, apple or orange. These flavored cigarettes are star performers for the tobacco giants in countries like Chile, which has the highest smoking rate in the Western hemisphere. We went there to learn more from more than three dozen young Chileans who began smoking mostly as minors.
