Inside a Togo battery recycling facility
Authorities in Togo have ordered the first official study into lead contamination from battery recycling following reporting by The Examination, The New York Times, and Truth Reporting Post in Togo that showed how battery recycling operations, which export lead to make new batteries, have poisoned people and contaminated the environment with lead. Truth Reporting Post obtained videos from inside Mettogo Recycling, which operates near the village of Gati, Togo, showing poor ventilation and inadequate safety protections.
