The Examination

Help us report on the tobacco industry

Our reporters are headed to Panama to attend the global gathering to discuss changes to the World Health Organization’s landmark tobacco treaty — what do we need to know?

January 31, 2024

The Examination is a new investigative news outlet covering all things tobacco, from how cigarettes are marketed and sold to the emergence of newer products like vapes and nicotine pouches.

So far, our journalists have uncovered how tobacco companies have undermined health policy in China and Kenya, and how industry money has funded pro-vaping groups in Latin America.

Now we are heading to Panama to attend a biannual gathering to strengthen the World Health Organization’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, a global tobacco treaty signed by most of the world’s countries. The treaty still faces fierce industry resistance — and we need your help to tell this story. What do you think we should report on next?  You can fill out this form to share your ideas and advice.
